Ascent Trip Reporti got lucky and found a parking spot at the trailhead at 9:45am on this busy sunday.
take the mono pass trail up to the pass, mount starr is on the right. take a hard right and climb the sand to the ridge, it's easier than going straight up the steep rocky summit. once you attain the ridge it's relatively straight-forward to traverse/climb to the summit area, class 2-3 the whole way.
i bumped into two other parties in the rocks, one of which had given up and was headed down. the other was an older couple who seemed to be having a fine time making their way slowly through the rocks, but weren't quite sure where the summit was. i first summited on a class 3+ approach going north on the ridge, but after scrambling around the summit boulder area a bit i found several easier approaches. i dropped back down and guided the couple toward the easier approaches, and they were pretty happy to reach the summit.
the views are great.
