Ascent Trip Report

I expected this little hike to be a let down after big Si. I was wrong. Yes, this hike, at this time of day, had a different people training for Rainier like on Big Si, and lots more families, dogs, unfit hikers, etc....but it actually had a beautiful path and was my favorite hike of the day. The bottom is a lush forest of trees and ferns on an undulating path along the cliff edge of Little Si that takes you along rift full of boulders of moss and the sounds of teams of rock climbers yelling out on belay, and screaming out their disappointment when they missed a hold and fell. This undulating section of trail makes you wonder if you will ever ascend but just about then it swings back on itself with a 180 degree turn and heads up the spine of Little Si and provides a nice view finish. For a shorter, far less strenuous hike, I enjoyed every bit as much as Big Si. I got up and down quickly, and now had around 15 miles peakbagging in and it was time to meet my work colleague for hike up Poo Poo point. He had wanted to show me his favorite hike in the area near where he resides so I was off for a quick bite to eat and more hiking ahead. Another interesting note, there is nice rest stop bench along the way dedicated to Doug Hansen the mailman that died climbing Everest in the "In to thin air" episode Apparently he was from the area and was being remembered by the local community.
