Ascent Trip ReportFrom the junction of US-85, US-385, and US-14A (which is 0.1 mile S of the Golden Hills Resort & Convention Center in Lead), I headed S on US-85. Call this point mile 0.0. Signs identified a winter sports area. At 1.2 miles I turned R on Nevada Gulch Rd. At 4.2 miles I turned L on Stewart Slope Rd at a saddle. At 4.7 miles I reached the Terry Peak Ski Area, a large gravel parking lot and ski facilities on the L. Terry Pk is plainly visible as you approach the area, plastered with ski lifts (silent when I was there) and runs that were partly covered by lingering snowfields. I parked in the lot in front of the ski building.
The hike was direct and straightforward: straight up the ski slopes to the summit with several RF towers and a lookout. The highest ground was near the latter, which had a couple of flights of stairs up to the roof, but I declined to climb them because of their rickety condition.
Terry peak can probably be Martinized by driving up a road from the S. The signed turnoff from US-85 is about 5 miles S of the Nevada Gulch Rd turnoff.
