Ascent Trip ReportI used Dennis Poulin's trip report on this one, with a slight modification.
Find the rest area about 2 miles south of Orovada on Hwy 93, and follow the dirt road that leaves from the north end of the pavement as it proceeds east over a cattle guard, and later through a gate. About a mile and a half later the road forks - the right hand road, which seemed to get a bit more traffic, heads up McConnell Creek while we took the lesser road to the left as it headed over a ridge into the upper Antelope Creek drainage. We camped at just over 5200', just after driving across a wash. The drive in to here is rough and requires high clearance; 4WD was used. Beyond here, 4WD is essential.
In the morning we continued up the road 100 yards or so, over a cattle guard, and turned left (north) on a jeep trail. At about 5600', before the mapped trail heads down into and across a drainage, we turned right on an unmapped steep jeep trail which ended in a flattish area at around 6100', where the attached track begins. There was room here to turn vehicles, and to park several (we had 3, and were not cramped).
The first 1500' of hiking was a simple grunt up hill. Beyond there a bit more route finding was required, and a fair amount of boulder hopping. The day also included two rattlesnake encounters - stay alert. Refer to the GPS track for our route.
