Ascent Trip ReportWe followed the Inner Basin Trail from Lockett Meadow. When we got to the Weatherford Trail, we went left to Doyle Saddle with plans to hike both peaks (Doyle being the other one). We first went up to Fremont Peak. The high ridges were sometimes sloppy with loose rock. There was a little bit of rock scrambling, and a lot of brush in the form of fir trees, where we would bash through them to stay on the ridge.
On the summit, the rock windbreak was buzzing with big green-colored flies for some reason. Ten feet away, there were no flies. Needless to say, we didn't stay long at the top. We decided to save Doyle Peak for another day and descend from Fremont Peak by going down the west ridge, then downhill through forest and talus to the trail.
The day was very warm. The state was having a heat wave, and Flagstaff's temperatures were in the 90s F (35 C). Higher up, the sun was noticeable. Even on the summit, it was kind of warm. We had blue skies and almost no clouds.
