Ascent Trip ReportFrom Ribblehead (again). Clockwise circuit. Across the bogs on the original route between Whernside and Pen-y-ghent. Fortunately after some dry weather, there was not too much bog hopping. Hundreds of charity walkers and others out on this sunny summer weekend day. Had to queue to descend the short scrambly section up/down Pen-y-ghent. Midges were out in force on Pen-y-ghent and Whernside - never had them so bad out of Scotland. The charity walkers were still streaming by as I ascended Whernside and I recognised a number of them from earlier in the day. Got quieter once the summit of Whernside was reached. On a day like today you can understand why the 3 Peaks paths get the hammering they do. Off Whernside along the now official route. 9hrs 10 minutes for the round.
