Ascent Trip ReportStarted 3:29PM. False Gower by 4:42PM. Mt Gower 5:40PM. Out by 7:37PM right before sunset.
Parked at the end of Sarda Ct in Ramona. Straightforward trail to False Gower w/ a tiny bit off scrambling needed at the end. The hike to False Gower was fun and enjoyable and one of my favorite trail hikes so far in sd.
Going from False Gower to Mount Gower, however, was decidedly less comfortable. No trail and moderately thick chaparral coverage for about a mile. We started towards Middle Gower, and kept getting into thicker and thicker brush and were getting frustrated at having to fight for every foot forward. We were not pleased with our daylight projections given our pace. Near Middle Gower, we were high enough to see a nice stream of slab cutting through a valley to the south, so we gave up on Middle Gower (since we really weren't there for that), and cut over to the slab. On our way, we picked up a drainage in the valley that seemed to give us somewhat of a break from the shrubbery and allowed our pace to increase substantially. The drainage eventually led us to the slab we'd seen as well. We followed the drainage up the valley to the peak.
My gps said we only gained 8 ft of vertical going from False Gower to Mount Gower, but it took us an hour to go about 1 Mile to get that 8 ft.
