Ascent Trip ReportKatrina and I went for a hike in Preparation Canyon State Park in the lead up to and during a thunderstorm. We didn't get that wet, even though I forgot my raincoat. After a harrowing drive down Olive Road which was basically like straight-lining a couloir, we wrapped our way north, west, south, and east to get back to the parking area right next to the Monona County Highpoint. We read the plaque at the top and found out that this peak actually has a name, "The Spot". A local man who was a world traveler called named it and treasured it as one of his favorite places. Today the drizzle made it hard to see too far. We could not see more then a mile, probably, and could definitely not see the Missouri River Valley. Although we stopped at the top, I'd still highly recommend hiking it from the bottom if you've never been here. |
