Ascent Trip Report

Most previous accounts detail an approach from Hartsfield Airport, but I drove. From I-285 west of the HP, take exit 2 and drive east about 3 miles on Camp Creek Pkwy. (This point may also be reached from exit 72 on I-85.) There is an entrance to the Convention Center grounds just before reaching US 29, but I was unaware of the existence of this access entrance, so I took the ramp onto US 29 southbound and then almost immediately turn into the main entrance for the Convention Center. There was nowhere to park nearby and I was unwilling to part with $10 for what amounted to about 5 minutes' parking, so I parked in the exit which is 2 lanes wide and turned on my 4-way flashers. This option may not be available if there is an active convention taking place during your visit. The high ground may be in the median of the entrance as others have reported, but there were two small pine groves at the northwest and southwest corners of the intersection of the entrance and US 29, and these areas appeared just about as high. In the grove on the south side of the entrance there were some personal belongings, and I suspect that perhaps a homeless person was using this space, fairly well concealed from the passing public, as his or her sleeping place. I didn't disturb anything.
