Ascent Trip ReportFrom US 64 in Asheboro I headed south on NC 159, Zoo Parkway and turned right onto Freedom Trail. Halfway up this residential road I parked across from #1031.
I hiked up a double track through thicket-like brush to the ridge and an intersection. The main track turns left (south) and I followed it to a cleared area and the southern high point of the ridge. On this date the high point was a pile of tree trunks and related debris. I suspect this area may be slated for home construction, but at least for the moment 360 degree views are available.
I returned back to the track intersection and hung a left (west) onto a single track that wends it way past the back of the uppermost home on Freedom Trail. Seemed to me the high ground was to the southeast of the house. Nasty thrash getting to that area. Might be easier to approach near the top of Freedom Trail especially if the owner didn't mind a peakbagger skirting his side yard.
