Ascent Trip ReportAfter hiking Ragged Mountain and Mt. Greylock, I followed the AT southbound about 2 miles along the ridge to Saddle Ball Mountain. There are several small bumps that contend to be the summit of Saddle Ball. I went all the way to the southern-most bump, where there is a clearing just off the trail where it looks like people camp sometimes. The bump just north of that has a tiny 3240' contour, and there is a cairn with "Saddle Ball Mt" written on a rock. Rather than debating which is highest, I just decided to cross the entire summit ridge and be done with it. I then reversed course back to Greylock, and descended on the AT and Thunderbolt Ski Trails back to Thiel Road where I parked. |
