Friday 1:35pm: Depart USS Makin Island (LHD-8), San Diego 4:30pm: Arrive in Long Beach, load the van, park the Yaris in Keith's garage 5:00pm: Leave Long Beach, enjoy the company of others on the nightmare 91 7ish pm: Pakistani food in the 909 Midnight: Arrive at the trailhead 12:10am: Fellow trailhead bivouac adventurers ask Keith and James to not camp at the already crowded trailhead out of respect for their "solitude." Isn't this the busiest trailhead in Death Valley and we have the engine and lights off??? Greg remains asleep in his truck at the less-than-solitary trailhead: apparently he, 2 couples, and 15 boy scouts are "solitude" while Keith and James are the tipping point for "crowded." Keith and James head 2 minutes downhill after deciding that arguing with assholes is a waste of our time.
