Ascent Trip Report

After finishing 3 nearby county highpoints and getting in some nice hiking in the state park, I was intrigued to see the highpoint named "Hell's Point" expecting something very unusual and interesting hidden in Indiana. The hiking on the state park side is more interesting than the Beechwood Nature Preserve side as the woods are more attractive in the state park. But the highest point in the area (higher than any point in the state park or other adjacent preserves) is in the Beechwood Preserve. Unfortunately, the highpoint has a house on it. I am confused as to what the structure is doing. There were no signs that I saw and the maps appear to put it in preserve. I am not sure if it is an out parcel or not but it is the USGS high ground in the area. THere are briers protecting the bottom of the hill. No-one was around to ask, so I headed back to the parking lot.

Note there is a connecting trail between the Beechwood Nature Preserve and the Pokagon State Park to trail 8 but it is well marked on the Beechwood side and poorly marked on the Pokagon side.
