Ascent Trip Report

Flicked at least 10 ticks off my pants or shirt between the trailhead and ridgeline dirt road. McPherson's summit has some kind of noise-producing generator that ran intermittently while we tried to enjoy our lunch. Aidan wasn't feeling too well, so Becca descended with him while I continued on to Peak Mtn. Road hiking around here is great due to the lack of ticks. Probably flicked half a dozen on Peak Mtn's short non-road use trail. Encountered another 30 or so between the ridge road and Hog Pen Spring on the descent. Moral of this hike: prepare for ticks. Only 2 or 3 were those tiny ones. The rest were the big (easier to see) ones. Aidan only had 2 or 3, same as Becca. They all like me for some reason... Ticks and mosquitoes - the only animals I would like to see go extinct... The trail from Hog Pen to the ridge road is in excellent condition. No buswhacking or route finding! The road to Hog Pen Spring from Aliso Campground is pretty rough - not for passenger cars. It will also scratch both sides of your PEAKBG-mobile with overgrowing brush! Any passenger car can make it to Aliso Campground. With the other trip reports describing the bushwhacking from Aliso Campground up on the other trail, you may want to consider walking the road to Hog Pen Spring and then taking the trail from there... Don't just push the "lazy" button and drive this one - the trail was nice (other than the ticks)!
