Ascent Trip ReportPlease let me confess that I did not get to the actual summit. We had e-mailed and phoned the Vesuvio National Park as well as the "Ministero delle politiche agricole alimentari e forestali" but did not hear back from them until we had returned to the UK (when we actually did receive some kind of permit - still unclear, though, whether that would have been sufficient for the guards to let us through the barriers intended to keep the crowd within the main visitor area). I was happy enough to be able to convince the female guard to let our party through to complete the loop around Vesuvius, which really required all of my charm and persuasion abilities. ;-) Anyway, a nice day with stunning weather and views and of course fascinating to walk on the rim of a volcano crater!
