Ascent Trip Report

Took the Yellow line subway "R" from Manhattan to the stop at 25th Street as others had advised. It appeared to be a pretty safe part of town and only a short walk to the main gate. The hike does not disappoint. The main gate is amazing architecture and the historic battle grounds and signs are a real plus. I first hiked on down and found the lower lake at elevation 21 and then took a circuitous path across paved roads, brick paths, dirt paths, anywhere were the beautiful landscaping and flowering trees drew me. I found myself drawn to the top of nearly every hill in sight along the way and on the the way back. I covered at least 65% of the park enjoying the impressive grounds, and reading the plots along the way.

My pedometer registered over 4 miles of walking and 700 feet of vertical by the time I stopped exploring and headed back to the train. Some of the hills are very steep in there. A nice CHP adventure for an "Urban Peakbag"
