Ascent Trip Report

Finally bagged the last high summit in PR. I had time since we were staying in nearby Ponce. I drove up the highway took a really crazy winding and steep shortcut road and ended up on Ruta Panoramica and drove past all the towers I had already hiked. I ended up at the picnic area near the 4th tower. Unlike the other 3 peaks, this one is gated and locked.

Thus, I started bagging each tower peak one by one starting east to west. Arriving at the second tower (this peak) and finding it gated, I drove back to the east a short distance and found a nice pull out to park. The gate is not signed no trespassing it tells you who to call in case of an emergency. Seeing no emergency, I looked for a bypass to the gate. There is no perimeter fence, so one quick step aside and I was off. The peak is up and beyond the actual tower.

I then drove on and nailed the third tower for my second time, and recaptured Cerro de Punta for the second time. the circuit took about an hour to hike and was an hour from Ponce. It gains over 1000 feet total.

One note- the peakbagger elevation is logged wrong on this one with it actually being on or near the second contour at 20 meter elevations so you are looking at around 1235 to 1240 meters at the summit not 1210. you can correct this with some add gain to reflect that it is actually more vertical than indicated. I had some add gain from my starting point as well.
