Ascent Trip ReportJohn and I missed the turnoff to the dirt road that leads to the trailhead, and had to backtrack. The best way to locate the turnoff is to drive 0.6 miles past milepost 71, then turn left onto the dirt road. Also, the road into the trailhead requires a high clearance vehicle to get to what the DPS calls the 2-wheel drive trailhead. The road above the 2-wheel drive trailhead has one section that is extremely difficult to do, even with a 4x vehicle. The majority of the climb is a mixture of class 1 and 2 except for an easy class 2-3 section just prior to the summit. My GPS track and trip stats include an ascent of Peak 8054.
