Ascent Trip ReportInitial visit to DeSoto. I'm counting it because I'm not a purist but another visit will make me feel better. The situation is much as described on CoHP. I started with a visit to the benchmark. The main gate was closed but a smaller one just west of it was open and I was able to use that road to access the much better county line road. I tagged the benchmark but did not hike to the area southwest; it was just a little too busy. I will return and get permission. Then I proceeded to the intersection of Ten Mile Grade and Scarborough. Large herd of cattle camped out right in that area so I didn't hop the gate. I did hop the gate at the tiny spillover contour and the other one to the west. At the last one I explored the orange grove, highly scented with blossoms, and went through the gate to the area around the ditch. Electrical fence nearby, watch out. A truck met me at the gate, but when I explained what I was doing, he didn't seem to mind.
