Ascent Trip ReportA track/open woods hike to 2 peaks ..... 1.8 miles, 1:05 hours RT
I used Ken Oeser's excellent/easy southern approach and his TR is still good. I basically followed Ken's footsteps to the summit, this TR attempts to add/update information. This is not a stand alone TR and one must read Ken.
Unfortunately there was no one home at Ken's " ..... to a white house on the left.". We parked here and decided to proceed. Rose would stay back and deal with the consequences ... she would have a nice quiet wait.
From the house I walked the road east 75 yards to Ken's " ...... the first ridge on the left.", where there is a good ATV track (with a posted sign) that climbs/follows the ridge .5 mile north all the way to the grassy bench (37.92490,-83.88972). There is an animal feed station with a hunter's chair here, Middle Peak is just to the north.
I then went easterly on a path .2 miles to the col, followed be a moderate climb eastbound on the ridge (less than .2 miles) to the fairly obvious summit (37.92730,-83.88606). I looked-for/couldn't find the Willoughby BM amid the thick carpet of leaves.
I descended back to the col and decided to stay straight (west) on the ridge and climb .2 miles to the MIDDLE PEAK (37.92569,-83.89030), a small rock outcrop. All the woods are open, some underbrush on the Middle Peak.
I would have liked to continue west to the West Peak but I had given Rose an ETA.
We thank Ken for pioneering this easy approach, however permission should be had.
