Ascent Trip Report

I only live about 10 miles from this peak yet had not known of it until recently. It's now part of the Scottsdale Mountain Preserve, with dozens of trails in the region. Many people were here today, most of them mountain bike riders. The area has been open for recreation only since about 2013. From about 1910 to about 1970, it was a working ranch - the Browns Ranch - that covered nearly 70 square miles in its heyday.

As for the hike, the trailhead is at the end of Alma School Parkway, with access from Dynamite Road. From there, it's an easy walk of 1.6 miles each way and about 500 feet of elevation gain to the summit. All junctions are well signed, and the trail is well tended and barrier free. The last 0.2 mile is steeper. I slipped coming down and my hand landed on a cholla bulb.

Views from the summit are excellent. Took me about 90 minutes round trip.
