Ascent Trip ReportAbout midway between Roxboro and Durham on US 501 I turned east on Helena-Moriah Road and then north on Stoney Mountain Road and parked at the pipeline just before 1878 (number on the white mailbox) on the right. Followed buried pipeline to the SE past a field and then downhill and across Deep Creek (stony bottom, ankle deep) and seriously uphill to a junction where the pipeline swath crosses a powerline swath. Just to the left (north) of this junction is a derelict school bus. From the junction I followed the powerline uphill south a very short distance and then I plowed into the thorns and pine on the left a few more yards in pursuit of the high point.
No distinctive high point as the summit is on the flat side, but a bit of walking around thru the brush should insure that the summit was gained. Not quite a mile one way. You will get your feet wet crossing Deep Creek. Saw no posted signs at the roadside access point or enroute to the high point. The school bus had apparently been converted to a camper. Maybe it was used by hunters.
