Ascent Trip ReportThis is an incidental hill along the Balcones Trail in the south section of the SNA closer to the parking areas. You essentially tag this right off the trail.
It is the tallest feature on the Sandero Balcones Trail Loop between Wildcat Canyon and the Far Reaches Trail. There are some views to the south and SW off the peak that provides a relief to the otherwise blocked in scrubby terrain. There are not overlook vistas here like on the Far Reaches Trail. Solitude on a FRI was high. I only passed 2 other hikers on a 7 mile journey.
Taller features are found on the Far Reaches Trail to the east, in the Environmental Protected Habitat to the north, and west of Caroline's Loop to the far NW.But during the peak season when most are hiking you can not get to the higher lands to the north. If stays on the Wildcat Caynon Trail and Sandero Blacones Loop this is the highest hill. IF one loops back with the Far Reaches Trail there is a higher hill. This loop was nearly 7 miles as it was. Plan your parking spot, and loops well or the back-country trails to the N and NW can take you over 10 to 16 mile loop hikes.
Be aware there is a fee to park (I think it was $6) and it is only open on FRI SAT SUN and MON
