Ascent Trip ReportClimbed as part of the eastern Linville Gorge backpacking trip. Climbed this mountain in pouring rain and got off trail. Bushwhacked through thick Rhodendrons as part of Sitting Bear Mountain and ended up scrambling up steep slopes with poncho. Learned never to backpack with a pancho ever again as it hung up in the Rhododendrons and trapped me on a very steep scramble area blinded for a short time. Also last trip wearing cotton. Started to get hypothermia from rain and wet clothes. Never took cotton backpacking again! |
