Ascent Trip ReportThis was day two of our 2016 winter hiking excursion, and after hiking 11 miles the day before, we decided to take it easy today and do a couple of shorties, including Baker Mountain and Owl's Head. Owl's Head is only .6 of a mile and about 460ft of elevation gain, but it offers tremendous views of the surrounding high peaks of the Adirondacks, with plenty of exposed rock outcroppings on the summit. The weather this day was a bit cloudy, so, the views were ok, not perfect. You could see quite a ways, but it was just gray. Most of the trail was bare, with no snow or ice to speak of. So, the hike up did not require any special footwear, although, near the top, there were a few icy spots, so we chose to put on the micro spikes. This aided in our descent as well. A nice hike. got some great panoramic photos, and we spotted Hurricane Mountain which would be up the next hike we did the following day.
