Ascent of Round Mountain on 2016-02-25
|Date:||Thursday, February 25, 2016|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||1905 ft / 580 m|
Ascent Trip ReportLeft Cache Creek Ridge at Dunfield Flats and took the spur ridge SW to the summit. (See Cache Creek Ridge TR for GPX track.) The ridge to Round Mountain must have burned really hot. It feels like ground zero with nearly total devastation. Of course, this makes the hiking much easier. What was probably an epic bushwhack a year ago is currently brush-free. Sadly, however, the poison oak is already beginning to re-emerge. Still, right now is an excellent time to visit Cache Creek Wilderness! Sporting clean prominence of 265 feet, Round offers very good views of the eastern half of the wilderness.
