Ascent Trip Report

I was planning on hiking Giant and Rocky Ridge today, but after hearing the talk about the need for crampons at the hostel, I decided to back down. Instead, I decided to take advantage of the mild winter to bushwack to Mendon, then Killington. Went up the icy logging road, past the red house. At clearing, go straight (do not go past the brown house, wrong way). At tiny clearing, bear right and descend towards the river. Go past washed out section of road. The river crossing still has a tiny cairn. It was partly frozen, so I had to get my boots wet crossing. Then took a skidder trail heading up and east-southeast. There was also a lot of flagging further up. When I reached an area where the flagging wasn't making sense, I bushwacked up. I then reconnected with a flagged route again. Continued up to the ridge, only using microspikes the entire time since the snow depth was ankle deep. Along the ridge, followed it to the Mendon canister. The log book had been replaced at the end of 2013.
