Ascent Trip ReportGuided by Exum mountain Guides. Rod Newcomb gave us all a one day climbing class and we were honored to have one of the most well known guides in the area take on us novice alpine-rock particiapnts and train us personally. Brian Harder busted up to our camp that morning and guided us to the summit using short-rope assists. A series of exposed class 4 scrambles and limited easy rock climbing in the 5.2-5.4 range. Mountain boot level mountaineering with ropes just for exposed safety.
Guide met us at base camp 10,000 feet
Backpacking trail coming in was around 6800 feet climbed with packs to set up base camp at 10,000 then climbed several peaks with day packs as described. 3 miles in backpacking and 3 miles out and 5 miles of total mountaineering with day packs.Buck Mtn was around a 3 mile round trip on top of the base camp backpacking.
Trip was simple in terms of "mountaineering" and barely met the thresholds we set to use a guide assisted climb, but none the less very fun and wonderful views of the Fossil Mountain area to the NW.
