Ascent Trip Report3 days of backpacking with backpacking group then set base camp at Boulder Brooke designated camp site with days of hiking, scrambling, and acclimating. Then, 6 mile day hike up to summit and 6 miles back to camp site. Very strenous day at high altitude.
I was not ready for this trip and the backpacking took its toll on me on the previous days work up to the camp. This approach into campsite was so strenuous that i literally crawled in to camp and could not eat dinner. I decided i was too exhausted to try the summit in the morning. Wayne had formed horrible blisters that kept opening and awakening him all night. After a sound sleep for me, howver, i decided to try the ascent with my team. As the hike ensued i felt stronger while others began to get sick at the altitude. Because of blisters and high altitude 2 on the team did not summit (Andy and Wayne). Even Chuck who is always stronger than me upclimbing began to turn back. I talked him in to staying with it up the massive talus gully and he got his head cleared along the way. Holder as ususal summited first and i was about 20 minutes behind him. Chuck was about 10 minutes behind me. The best part was the marker at the USGS point before the semi-exposed scramble to the top.
Excellent trip up the famous keyhole scramble route but very crowded! The keyhole trip was amazing a classic hike, scramble. Big views and good physical challenge.
