Ascent of Fir Mountain on 2016-02-21Others in Party: | Linda Spencer
| Date: | Sunday, February 21, 2016 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Motorized Transport to Trailhead: | Car | Peak: | Fir Mountain | Location: | USA-New York | Elevation: | 3620 ft / 1103 m |
Ascent Trip Reportstarted up a little too soon off the biscuit brook trail, so we had to drop down into the ravine between spruce and fir and cross the stream there. After that the ascent was pretty mild up the ridge line. Reached the canister at about 5:00 PM so by the time we descended to the drainage ravine the headlamp was necessary for the remaining 1/3 mile of bushwhack to the blazed trail and the exit from the woods. Had to shimmy across a large fallen tree at the trail crossing of the main stream feeding the Biscuit Brook from Fir(not fun in the dark). The rocks at the crossing were covered with a feeble snow bridge because of the warm temperature and the stream was flowing like spring melt.CLIMATE CHANGE! |
