Ascent Trip Report

I had to be in Yuma for work in the afternoon, so I was up before sunrise in Vista and made my way to Anza Borrego for a light morning hike to net 2 SD100 peaks. The road into the trailhead has a very deep mud puddle right near the California Riding & Hiking Trail. If you have 2WD, stop here! Otherwise the rest of the drive in is uneventful. The trail is easy to follow in spite of the fire damage. This area probably looked quite beautiful before the fire - definitely not my favorite Anza Borrego hike. Thankfully the summit register for Pinyon is on top of the summit block so you have to really climb the peak to claim it! I had no idea that Wilson was a "Lower Peak" until I signed the register - go figure! The round trip took 3 hours with 2 brief stops for blister care caused by yesterday's AT ski ascent. I also relaxed on each summit for a few minutes each. I had initially wanted to do BM Bonny on the SD 100, but opted instead to check out the state park visitor's center - I heard that it was worth the visit. It was. Pics
