Ascent Trip ReportFrustrated that yesterday's trip didn't result in summiting both peaks, i returned the following day to get Mt Hancock. followed the same trails up, bearing left at the split in the Hancock Loop tr to ascend the northern slope. somehow, the steep grade indicated on the map didn't do justice to the trail; ascent was more difficult than expected. perhaps i was tired from the day before. having brought my ASOD, i was psyched to do some real sledding. turns out that the group's failure to make it over to Hancock to sled down was a blessing in disguise. some of the people in the group had never used the sleds or used them only a few times. the trails are so steep and narrow (between trees) that it was all i could do to rely on muscle memory for steering. Stopping was not an option and i was flying so quickly that Delilah couldn't even jumo in front of the sled as she usually does. |
