Ascent Trip ReportA great way to start the new year. My wife and I trekked down to the Catskill for one last hike. I figured we did Hunter during the Fire-Tower Challenge now lets get the other and last 4000' mountain in the Catskills. We went up Slide Mountain via the west approach, a short 2.7 mile one way hike. The temperature was cold, it was cloudy and there was snow on the ground. The trail was a steady moderate climb especially after the first mile. Near the summit it leveled of to an easy grade, the snow on the trees and ground made a beautiful setting. At the first lookout point we were above the clouds so we have pictures with no view. We took more pictures on the Fire-Tower footing at the summit and the plaque for John Burroughs the author who frequented the mountain back in the early days.
