Ascent Trip Report

GPS was low on batteries so I only ran a one-way track from the mine to the summit as the road is easy to follow and I returned by a nearly identical route. I didn't have spares and I needed it for my "B" peak of the day. From the unlocked gate: 1 hr 45 min up, 20 minutes on top, 1 hr 20 min down.

After passing Point 1268, I should have contoured into the wash sooner but I went a little high. No worries, I only lost 40 or so feet side-hilling below some (wet) slabs getting into the drainage.

Bart mentions that a normal car can make it to the trailhead. I would disagree. There are no clearance issues at all, but the road is very sandy after the railroad crossing. I used the 4WD on my truck when I came close to getting stuck in the sand at one point.

Driving route:
From Old Hwy 66, take Danby Rd south. Reset odometer at intersection.
At 1.6 miles, cross railroad tracks and continue straight. The sand is soft here, so beware.
At 4.9 miles, another 4 way intersection. Continue straight.
Park at 5.5 miles where a gate (probably unlocked) and fence block further progress.
