|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
|Peak:||Orocopia Mountains High Point|
| Elevation:||3815 ft / 1162 m|
Ascent Trip ReportFollowed the standard directions to the 2WD trailhead, which can be found on either summitpost or other peakbagger trip reports. The road is a little sandy at places, but any 2WD vehicle with a little clearance should be able to make it without difficulty. The only questionable part of the road to the 4WD trailhead and wilderness boundary is the moderately steep climb immediately following the 2WD trailhead.
Route finding is not completely obvious, especially since there are several paths to the summit. I never entered the wash and followed a beautiful use trail all the way to the summit with little to no brush. The only trick is in deciding when to turn away from the old road. Eventually the road goes over a little rock pinnacle and some trails obviously descend into the narrowing wash there. However, I followed it a little further and it gently descends into a small drainage that feeds the wash and quickly climbs out the other side. After this point there are a smattering a light use trails climbing a hill to the south, which all appear to coalesce on a well established use trail on the other side of the hill. This trail is very obvious from the top of the hill, and ascends the north ridge all the way to the summit.
It was a beautiful hike on a great route. Unfortunately, there were sustained high winds making the summit and upper parts of the route unpleasant.
