Ascent Trip Report

After Death Valley's incredible flooding a couple months ago, we weren't sure what to expect out of the Tucki Mine Road. But it doesn't look like this canyon was touched by those floods. The road tracks were well-beaten down as though it hasn't been flooded in years. We were surprised how good it was. Joel comfortably drove his Jeep Liberty from the pavement to the upper trailhead in about an hour. There's still the short rocky section that regular cars and maybe a few "street-clearance" SUVs won't clear.

Followed the usual route. We basically stayed on top of all the ridgelines, as there was seldom much advantage to sidehilling. It also makes navigating easier. On the return, I clipped 20 feet off of one little top, and inadvertently went 100 feet down the wrong ridge before noticing.

We found the two reference marks, but it looks like someone has helped himself to the "Death" benchmark.
