Ascent Trip ReportFrom Lakeview take OR 140 over Warner Pass and 8 miles east of its junction with U.S. 395 turn left on Warner Rd (FSR 3615); follow this paved road 6.7 miles to FSR 019 (about 0.3 mile past Mud Creek C.G. adjacent to Bull Prairie); FSR 019 climbs in 5.5 miles to Light Peak. The final approach, after passing the turnoff to Drake Peak L.O., is up a steep but easy track to the broad, open summit. Oddly, the USGS marker reads "Drake Peak." Why not "Light Peak?" Drake Peak is an easy 1.5 XC hike from Light Peak ,descending several hundred feet to a saddle and the ascending to the top. The terrain is open, much of it covered with low brush. A minimal road descends from Light Peak part way to the saddle, but I didn't even consider driving it. Drake Peak's prominence of 2,548' ranks it #31 on OR's list of 2KP peaks.
