Ascent Trip Report

See Madulce Peak TR for further detail

From the top of Big Pine Mountain we followed Frank Goodykoontz's XC route back to the main road and connected with the Mission Pine Tr for 1.5 miles to the scenic, rather dramatic summit of West Big Pine Mountain (11:00A), site of an old fire lookout. It is a much more memorable peak than its forested neighbor, Big Pine Mountain. We returned to Big Pine Rd and hiked back to Madulce Saddle, where we picked up our gear and continued down to Chokecherry Spring for a second cold, breezy night.
