Ascent Trip ReportNear Rocky Point on OR 140 north of Klamath Falls, turn inland on FSR 3651. After 9.4 miles on this good gravel road turn right on FS High Clearance Route 980 to begin the slow drive of 4.5 miles to Pelican Butte. Be very cautious. This is a narrow, rough, rocky road, hemmed in much of the way by dense forest, before several switchbacks enter open territory below the summit. On top the visitor is greeted not only by communication towers and the rather ugly, unstaffed L.O. but also by memorable views of Mt. McLaughlin and Klamath Lake.
