Ascent Trip ReportFrom Sunol take Kilcare Rd past a residential area to its end and then follow Singalong Way past several homes to the entry gate to Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park. After about 1.25 miles on the Sinbad Creek Tr, turn left on the unsigned dirt road shortly beyond trail marker #24. From the flat, circular area at the end of this spur follow an obvious but intermittent use trail up the wooded ridge that connects with the broad, open Sunol Ridge in less than 0.5 mile. There are barbed-wire boundary fences to cross about 1/3 of the way up the ascent ridge and again on arriving at the Sunol Ridge. Walk easterly along this gently undulating ridge. After about 2 miles on the well defined jeep road, climbing over three locked gates, and crawling under a barbed-wire fence, I reached the communications site atop the Sunol Ridge HP. The usual direct road access from Sunol, like my route, runs through private property, requiring considerable "innocent trespassing." The apparent benchmark, elevated about 6" above ground, lies inside the chain-link fence that encircles a secured area. Sunol Mountain HP is the HP prominence of Alameda County with a prominence of about 1,100'. My RT distance was about 7 miles from the car with an elevation gain of perhaps 1,300' counting the undulations.
