Ascent Trip ReportNov 8 hiked 9 miles and 7,000' to the crestone lodge at 11,200'. Left Casa Mariposa at 4:15am. Arrived at the lodge at 10:15am. Altitude had me laid up all day resting with a headache. 3 other hikers in my room. About a dozen total in the lodge. We all got up at 2:45am. On the trail by 3:15am. Dark all the way to the top. 3 miles and 1500' elevation. I got there at 4:45am just as the sky started to lighten. Spent an hour and a half on top while everyone else showed up.
Hiked up Cerro Piramide on the way down. Easy 30 minute detour. Also hiked up Cerro Teribe on the way back. This was much more effort with a 1,000' gain. Back at the lodge at 9:00am.
Have all day to rest. Tomorrow hike up Cerro Ventisqueros before hiking back to the car and driving back to San Jose and flying to Guatemala City for a quick hike up Tajamulco and visit Tikal ruins. |
