Ascent Trip Report

NC55 has been re-routed since previous trip reports. It no longer connects to the ramp at I-95 exit 73 but is about a quarter-mile south via US421.

The quad shows three easy locations along NC55 (which is known locally as Harnett-Dunn Road). Headed east, Area 1 is behind two houses that sit off the road. Hard to see any rise here. Area 2 is on Sunrise Lane, a dirt track that rises from the highway and then turns left back toward Area 1. I thought the highest ground here was in the field to the north of the last house on the left. Continue east and turn left onto Green Path Road and then right on Godwin Lake Road. Park beyond a house on the right and explore Area 3 in the cotton field to the SW, which rises slightly.

I thought even higher ground was further east on NC55 near 11202 Harnett-Dunn Road. There is not a 230 contour here, but you can see Area 3 across the cotton fields, and it didn't look any higher to me. The terrain here is too subtle to trust my altimeter, but I consistently got 4-6 feet higher at this location compared to Area 3.
