Ascent Trip Report

Coming from Lenox I took J13 east to IA25 north to J13 east on the county line. I turned south onto a dirt road where the road into Union County is Eagle Ave. I pulled in to the house and knocked on the door to ask permission. A man named Bob Mohr came out and sat down to chat with me. He said that a man had been there about 11 years ago, looking for the highpoint. He said the man was from Michigan and was a teacher and wondered if I knew him. We talked for a few minutes about elevation and county borders. He seemed to be real excited that his land had this special attribute. He also told me that he likes to ride his horse on trail in the Ozarks which have a lot more rise and fall than here. I then walked south on the dirt road because I didn't want to go through a mud puddle with the Corolla. I found the highest of the contenders, Area 1, right next to the road on the west side. It was clearly higher than the contender on the east side just south of it (Area 2). I looked south to Area 3, which looked lower. I visited it anyway, and on sighting back it was hard to say as it looked pretty equal. Both sides of the road were harvested corn fields. For the final point (I used LiDAR to cut Ringgold down to just 4), I drove east on the county line road to a single large bin and parked. The field to the south was standing corn. Carefully maneuvering through the corn I made it to the unimpressive top.

Here are my LiDAR results. Let me know if you would like to see the metadata. Visit areas 1, 3, 5a, and 5b if you want to hit those within the vegetated margin of error which is 2.42', or just Area 1 if you use the bare ground margin of error of 1.21'.
