Ascent Trip ReportTook the southeast ridge route from the dry Clark Lake bed. Parked on the sandy dirt Rockhouse Canyon Rd (ok for passenger cars) just before the mining equipment. Temp was 91, but it was cloudy and those clouds made all the difference. I hiked with 4 other people. I used 3 liters of water. The other members in my party drank between 4 and 6 liters a piece. There were two places that were slightly exposed for a couple of steps, but they could have been easily avoided with more foresight. I avoided them perfectly well on the way back down. This ridge line hike was unrelenting and steep. There is not really much trail. You can see a trail appear in some sparse parts, but for the most part, it's just follow the rocky, sandy ridge line to the top. One person in my party almost got bit by a rattler that lunged at him when he put his hand down to scramble up a rock! It shook him up a little, but we carried on without incident. We took a handful of breaks on the way up since this is our first hike of the winter Anza season. If you're in good shape, you can do this faster than we did. The views at the top are amazing as per usual. Signed the register at the top. I think hiking poles would have helped a LOT on the way down since it's rocky, sandy, and steep. I'm looking forward to coming back to this area soon to grab some of the many, many other peaks obtainable from Borrego Springs. @gin_party
