Ascent Trip ReportI had earlier hiked up the Water Tank mountain north of the Mt Shepherd retreat. From that high point I descended down to the saddle with Shepherd Mt. At the saddle I crossed over the yellow blazed Loop trail and then ascended somewhat steep slopes to the fire tower. After enjoying fine views from the top I gingerly returned to earth and made my way over to the communication towers.
Retracing my way back along the road to the fire tower I then located the white blazed Duckwall trail and zigzagged my way back to the pond and subsequently to the Hedgecock Center parking lot.
An aside: Fire tower gate key was missing at the office; however, when I got to the tower I noted that someone(s) had used a railroad tie to pry a hole in the fence. Hopefully soon the key will turn up and the fence will be repaired.
