Ascent Trip Report

Yesterday afternoon with guide Peter Bernet we went by car to the Hotel Wetterhorn, and from there to the Chalet Milchbach, up the ladders to the Oberer Grindelwald glacier, and finally up the steep but pleasant path to the Gleckstein hut (2317m). This morning we departed the hut at the early hour of 2:15AM. We followed the path to the Kringen Glacier, crossing it and ascending to the Wettersattel (3500m). From here a short ridge took us to the summit of the Wetterhorn at 7:15AM. Wonderful views in perfect weather from this relatively low (under 4000m)but dominant peak overlooking the green Grindelwald valley far below. Return to the Gleckstein Hut, a leisurely break for lunch, and the same route back to Grindelwald, thus completing five memorable climbs in the Bernese Oberland: Monch, Jungfrau, Gross-Fiescherhorn, Finsteraarhorn, and Wetterhorn.
