Ascent Trip Report

Everyone in the Touristenhaus was up at 3:30AM to prepare for a climb of something today, but was soon back in bed. The weather was very iffy, and we were socked in by dense fog. However, when we got up around 8:30AM, the weather had improved and it was only partly cloudy. We were encouraged to start for the Jungfrau with our guide Fritz at 9:30AM. It turned out to be a beautiful though windy day. We followed the traditional route from the Jungfrau Glacier to the Rottalsattel (3885m), from which we ascended the steep snow ridge to the summit, arriving at 12:45PM. Impressive views of the big glaciers and other high summits of the Bernese Oberland and beyond and the 3000m drop down to the Lauterbrunnen Valley. We were among the few on the peak today. Back at the Jungfraujoch shortly after 4:00PM. Another pleasant evening with dinner at the Berghaus and a good night’s sleep at the Touristenhaus .
