Ascent Trip Report

This was a group outing with the Mountaineers up the Little Si scrambling route.

We were the only ones in the lower parking lot when we arrived at 07:15 and encountered very few other hikers on the main trail at that early hour. Once we departed the trail for the steep and rocky scramble route, we didn't encounter any one else until we reached the summit. This alternate approach is much more difficult than simply walking up the trail, and offers an excellent opportunity for practicing scrambling techniques (route finding, hand/foot placement, rockfall avoidance, setting up and prussiking on a hand line, rappelling, etc.). There were quite a few obstacles on this route, but that was kind of the point :-)

It was a beautiful day to be out in the Snoqualmie Valley, and an unusual experience to be in the midst of one of the area's most popular hiking areas and see so few other people. Well, until we were on our way back down the main trail at about 14:00, anyway-- then we saw LOTS of people on the main trail.
