Ascent Trip Report

This journey from Mickey's Spire, following the ridge to the WNW was not technical and mostly scree surfing. I made good time (my climbing partner was wearing down and went towards Williams, where we would join up to attempt it as our last objective.

The climb up to Carter was untechnical and only tiring due to the loose rocks. On the summit I noticed the storm clouds we had been watching we ominous and nearing rapidly. I decided to attempt to down climb the ridge to the N and E of the summit, which ended up being fairly hairy (easily the scariest thing I did all day). I realized the trail I was following was most likely a mountain goat trail, and although I've seen the crazy videos of them things walking on damn walls, I kept saying "If a goat can do it without fingers to grip, I can do it!" A few times I nearly turned around and climbed back up to take the long was around and down. Fortunately, I'm stubborn and made it down without incident and crossed the glacier-esque landscape to the NE towards Williams. I met up with Brian who informed me there was no good route up to the summit of Williams from the SW ridge. This, the overall fatigue, and the rain that began falling brought an end to our peak capturing exploits.

I highly recommend this trip. My only regret is not capturing Williams. I will have to go back for it someday.
