Ascent Trip Report

LiDAR confirmed that the house off Lemon Drive is where the Franklin cohp is located.

Katrina and I drove in to the driveway and saw that the front of the house was getting remodeled. We rang the doorbell and a nice man came out. He knew that his house was at the county highpoint and was happy to talk with us about it. He gave us permission to walk around the yard a bit to look for the high spot. My LiDAR analysis gave an elevation of 1309.84' at the NW corner of the house. The data seemed to jump a bit here, and in person we saw why. There is a concrete set of steps coming out of the house here that rise maybe a foot or more off of the grass. Upon inspection of the yard, we determined that the high spot is just between the north end of the loop driveway and the pines, just 30 to 40' from the road. This agrees with the TR from Josh Carlson. There were good views all around which included some fields, wind turbines, and the treed bluff on the far side of the Iowa River to the south.
